Abstract
Background: Renal and thyroid function are closely related, as dysfunction of one can lead to damage to the other.
Purpose: The case of a patient with dual kidney and thyroid dysfunction is presented.
Case presentation: A 20-year-old male patient with a history of right renal agenesis presented with a 3-month history of asthenia and weakness. He was prone to high blood pressure, and physical examination revealed a depressible abdomen, mild tenderness, and grade 2 edema in the lower limbs. Laboratory tests confirmed decompensated primary hypothyroidism and chronic kidney disease with nephrotic features.
Discussion and conclusion: This case highlights the close relationship between thyroid and renal function, as dysfunction in one of these organs can predispose the other to damage through multiple pathophysiological mechanisms. Identifying this interconnection is essential for comprehensive patient management.
