Abstract
The body of knowledge and the amount of available information regarding chronic kidney disease (CKD) have expanded substantially in both Latin America and worldwide. Within the Latin American context, only a bibliometric analysis conducted in Brazil and a narrative review from Peru have evaluated CKD from a bibliometric perspective. In this regard, Colombia has not been an exception; however, only one review has investigated the current state of CKD research in the country.
A bibliometric assessment of CKD research in Colombia constitutes a valuable tool not only for understanding the current landscape of this disease but also for elucidating its interactions with multiple medical specialties. Such an analysis enables the identification of the most relevant research areas and knowledge gaps, thereby highlighting opportunities for innovation in the management and treatment of this complex condition. Given its close association with cardiology, nephrology, immunology, rheumatology, endocrinology, and internal medicine, CKD requires an interdisciplinary approach that promotes collaboration among experts from diverse fields. This synergy not only enhances the quality of patient care but also improves clinical outcomes by facilitating a comprehensive approach to disease management. Furthermore, bibliometric analyses support the continuous professional development of healthcare providers across these disciplines, ensuring that physicians and specialists remain informed about the latest advances and evidence-based practices. Ultimately, this contributes to improved patient care and fosters a culture of continuous learning and collaborative research.
