Abstract

Introduction: Bacterial pericarditis is unusual, but it must be considered in the spectrum of potential complications in a patient with bacteremia associated with the central venous catheter.

Purpose: Approach a rapid recognition and treatment to avoid potentially fatal complications.

Case presentation: Female, 50 years old with diagnosis of bacterial pericarditis due to Aeromonas hydrophila in the context of hemodialysis catheter-related bacteremia that required pericardiocentesis.

Discussion and conclusion: The review of this case report allow us to recognize the suspected condition of bacterial pericarditis related to clinical criteria (chest pain) and imagenological criteria (new pericardial effusion). The focus on pericardiocentesis, highlighting their drainage; specific antibiotic therapy (according to antibiogram) and optimized (sinergized an related to pharmacodinamic).
